Scraps of orange, pink, black and red felt...
1-yard gold thread... Cotton batting for stuffing.
Gauge 5 sc make 1 inch; 5 rnds make 1 inch.
Head...Starting at center front with White, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd sc from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc). 3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased. Repeat from * around (18 sc on rnd)...4th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 6 sc evenly around. Repeat 4th rnd until there are 66 sc on rnd. Now work without increasing for 9 rnds. Next rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 6 sc evenly around-to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Repeat last rnd until all sc have been worked off, stuffing firmly before opening becomes too small. Sew up opening.
Body...Starting at front with Pink, work as for Head until there are 54 sc on rnd. Work without increasing for 13 rnds. Next rnd: Dec 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc, dec 1 sc (this is underside of chest), sc in each sc around. Following 6 rnds: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 2 sc on underside of chest, being careful not to have decreases fall over previous decreases. Following 4 rnds: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 1 sc on underside of chest. Work without decreasing for 2 more rnds. Break off. Attach White and continue without decreasing for 12 rnds. Next rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 6 sc evenly around. Repeat last rnd until all sc have been worked off, stuffing before opening becomes too small. Sew up opening. Sew to Head.
Hind Leg (make 2)...Starting at top with White, work as for Head until there are 24 sc on rnd. Work without increasing for 6 rnds. Next 2 rnds: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 3 sc evenly around. Work without decreasing for 6 rnds.
Paw...Next rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Following 2 rnds: Sc in each sc around. Next rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 9 sc evenly around. Repeat last rnd until all sc have been worked off, stuffing before opening becomes too small. Sew up opening.
Front Leg (make 2)...Using Pink, work exactly as for Hind Leg to within 2 rnds before Paw. Break off. Attach White and complete as for Hind Leg. Sew Legs in place.
Tail...Starting at tip with White, ch 2, 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd to 5th rnds inclusive: Sc in each sc around. 6th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 1 sc on rnd. 7th rnd: Sc in each sc around. Repeat 6th and 7th rnds alternately until there are 15 sc on rnd. (Be careful that increases do not fall over previous increases.) Work without increasing until piece measures 5 ½ inches in all. Break off, stuff and sew in place.
Ear (make 2)...Starting at lower edge, ch 10. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Dec 1 sc, sc in each sc across, dec 1 sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until all sc have been worked off.
Waistband...With Pink, ch 4. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next ch. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: (Sc in next ch-1 sp) twice. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 7 ½ inches. Break off. Sew around Body where color was changed.
Neckband...Work exactly as for Waistband until piece measures 6 inches. Break off. Sew in place around neck. Cut a piece of pink felt the same size as ear. Sew ear to felt and sew in place on head. Cut 2 ovals of orange felt, 1 inch long and ½ inch wide. Sew in place for eyes. Cut 2 strips of black felt, ½ inch long and 1/8 inch wide, and sew in place for pupils. Cut a triangle of black felt (each side ½ inch long) and sew in place for nose. Cut a piece of red felt in a crescent shape (approximately ¾ inch long) and sew in place for mouth. Cut four 9-inch pieces of gold thread and draw through head behind nose, for whiskers.
