What's in a name? Wave Rock is simply one of my pen names.
I am an author, poet, lyricist, & artist. I started writing in the fifth grade. It was when I was first getting a taste of how big of a role Rock N' Roll was going to be in my life. It was an amazing time to be alive, rock was bigger than ever and Guns N' Roses were sittin' pretty as the undisputed kings of rock. I was in awe of the raw emotion that their music inspired in me. Well from then on I was hooked. I decided "I wanna be a heavy metal rock star!" Who could resist the decadence of it all? Over the next several years I wrote more and more. There were two sides to my writing. The professional: I wrote tons of lyrics hoping I'd someday play them in a band. And the personal: my heart and soul went into what are now commonly known as "fan fics", fantasy fictions written by fans about rock stars. 6th, 7th, & 8th grade my whole world revolved around Guns N' Roses. I happily dove into a fictional world that revolved around rock n' roll where I could live out my dreams and party with my idols. Childish as it may have been, it was what got me through those difficult adolescent years. More than the others in GNR, Duff McKagan was quickly becoming the biggest influence in my life. The rest seemed to almost fade away one by one. Steve gone from the band due to his love of hard drugs. Izzy split of his own accord to follow his own style. Slash seemed to just be too drunk to function. And Axl to me had quickly become a fallen hero, a man so self destructive that he would eventually destroy what he had helped to create: the greatest rock band that ever lived. Duff became my hero, Superman. I viewed Duff as the glue that held Guns together (at least while it lasted). He seemed to be the rock, the staple. By this time I was heading into high school and as I was growing up I decided to let go of the once adored "fan fics" and focus on something that I might actually be able to publish some day. That's when I found my niche: poetry. Finally, a way I could write about the things I was feeling in a way that might actually do me some good some day. Eventually I realized that I was not born to be "Little Miss Rock Star" I was a writer. and I loved it and it was Duff McKagan most of all that inspired me to do what I love and follow my heart. When Duff did his first solo album "Believe In Me" It totally blew me away. I loved his voice, it melted me. And how could any one person have so much talent? My God, the man can sing, play guitar, bass and drums, all that and write music and lyrics too! Superman. My hero. Believe In Me? I most certainly do! I was about 16 at the time and decided that I just had to get a "Duff" tattoo. Not being old enough to have it done by a professional, I ended up doing it myself. I stole some India ink, downed some whiskey, went in my room, locked the door, put on Duff's solo album and came out about an hour later with "DUFF" printed carefully in fancy letters on my left forearm. I loved that tattoo. But what I didn't think of at the time was that maybe I should have put it someplace a little easier to hide! Little did I know then that someday I would have a professional office job where I'd have to dress up in business attire and that that tattoo would interfere with my career. Needless to say, it would eventually have to be removed. I had that tattoo for 7 years, and finally had it removed last year at the age of 23. And I vowed then that I would replace it, this time someplace easier to hide (likely the back of my shoulder or my hip) and this time by a professional. I have to have a Duff McKagan tattoo. Nobody has been a bigger influence on my life. So anyone have any cool Duff tat ideas? I'm going to go soon but I haven't decided exactly how it should look. Anyone with any cool ideas
