This is me and my first DUKE cake of the season (for the @NC State game '02) If you can tell at all, it says DUKE with the sprinkles. The cake itself is blue, but you can't tell 'cause its frosted (I really should've dyed the frosting instead of the actual cake, whatever though, it was the thought that counts!) I really look terrible (I'd been cooking all day and watching football, so at least I have an excuse right?) I have finally come to the conclusion that this season didn't work out to expectations because I was lazy and only made ONE Duke cake. *slaps wrist* OK, I don't really think it was me, but I definitely added some bad karma, LOL. A NEW YEAR It's crazy that it's already the regular season. Thank goodness, how time flies sometimes. Anyways, onto to what I have noticed from the first three games that Duke has played: Luol Deng is amazing. The freshmen from Blairstown Academy has an amazing feel for the game and knows how to score. He has the ability to put it on the floor, and for his height (6'8") he has a great range and a beautiful shot. Deng is a player. Our defense is pretty darn good. Yes, we've only played mid-major-esque teams (though I will tell you that Detroit is a top level mid-major and will most likely shock some in March) but we've kept them down in scoring. The average for scoring against is at 57.3 points per game, which I am happy with. Problem is our offense has not found it's click yet. Though improvement has shown, this team hasn't been able to figure out how to score easily against a team until half-time and beyond, which is cause for concern when we play Purdue tonight and at Michigan State on Wednesday. Right now we're averaging 75 points per game, but I'd like to see it higher. (One must commend the Detroit defense, however, because they had amazing stoppers on that team.) That's all for now, but the season is young! Phoebe (11.29.03) |

November 22 Coach K on the Detroit game "Tonight was a game where there weren't very many open shots because even if you beat somebody, somebody was flying at you. It was neat to see--both teams working so hard defensively." JJ Redick on Detroit "In the first half we were just really nervous, Detroit was playing great and we couldn't get anything to fall. We were playing good defense, and we wanted to maintain that and playing good D. We knew eventually our shots would fall." |
