South Walsham Broad, River Bure

Fleet dyke leads off the River Bure to the picturesque South Walsham Broad which actually consists of an inner and outer broad. The inner broad is private but boats are allowed to enter although no anchoring, mooring or landing is permitted. Craft can anchor on the outer broad and water and pump out facilities can be had at Bondon's boatyard who also used to hire cruisers and run a small provisions shop, the shop is now closed and cruisers are no longer for hire.

There are free moorings on Fleet dyke just before you enter the broad, the public toilets that used to be available are now closed as is the provision of refuse disposal for boaters. From there a track and a made up road lead to the B1140 and South Walsham village. Just before the main road stood Pratt's Curiosity shop which was established in 1890, sadly it has been demolished and houses have been built on the site, something which is happening everywhere in the Broads villages and on boatyards. There seems to be an attempt to turn South Walsham Broad into a private enclave.
