Thorpe St Andrew, River Yare

The main river passes Thorpe via The New Cut which was dug alongside the railway line in 1844. Thorpe village green is on the Old River, very low bridges with a headroom at average high water of only 6ft ( 1.83 mtrs ) span each end of the river. There are pleasant moorings on the green with a post office, general store and pub. St Andrew's church stands near the Green.

A few hundred metres up river from Thorpe the main traffic enters the River Wensum which flows from Norwich, the Yare to the left is not navigable by hire craft.
