La Gomera
Marinas and anchorages
La gomera in one of the smallest of the canary islands. The island itself is a complete contrast to the arid landscape and turist traps of it's nearest neighbour Tenerife. The coastline is very steep with spectacular cliffs for much of it's length, indeed perhaps one of the most spectacular spots in the canaries are ''The Organs'' on Gomeras northern tip. These are towering basalt cliffs in a hexagonal form making them apear as church organs on steroids!
La Gomera is famous for its unique language of whisteling, quite impressive to be heard.
It is well worth hiring a car here and going inland for a day to explore the lush Garahonay national park and trying some of the islands excellent local cuisine.

San Sebastian de La Gomera: San Sebastian on Gomeras south-east coast is definatley our favorite marina so far in the canaries. The marina is very new and has full shower and toilet faciltites on site. Berthing fees are very reasonable and I have seen boats as large as 60ft inside the marina, there is plenty of water in the entrance.
Be carefull entering and leaving as many ferries, and more recently cruise ships, use the outer port generally between 07.00 and 20.30. Another thing to watch out for are strong gusts coming down the valley where the village is located.
Within the village there are numerous restaurants, hostels, a couple of small hardware shops and a basic chandlers. The guys in the marina office are more than helpful and will point you in the right direction.
There is alsoa small fortified tower you can visit where the galleons hid their treasure in fear of corsairs and pirates.
