DUSTY'S THEN AND NOW

HOW TO RELIEVE THE STRESSES FROM GROCERY SHOPPING

SPRING CLEANING! Ahh the job our Mother's and Grandmother's and we love!! NOT. Here are a few things that I do and I find it does help. Picked up some of these "tricks" when I was house cleaning for a few years from a sweet lady. Of course she did it the old fashioned way! Take down the curtains, dust the walls, wash the woodwork then the windows, then the floors and she lived in a large Victorian,so can you imagine the woodwork! Well this is what I do now,and it does save me a lot of time and no Spring Cleaning! When winter is upon us, I do the closets. Take everything out, throw everything out that I don't need or haven't worn for a few years, dust it down and wash or repaint if necessary then put everything back in,and put a clean sheet over the clothes. That keeps the dust and discoloration off the shoulders of the clothing. Works well. When I am putting laundry away and a drawer looks messy,( mostly hubbies) I empty it wash it with a mild solution of Clorox water, let it dry,put fresh liner in(those old place mats do in a pinch) and put the clothes back in.I do the windows and curtains when I see the curtains are a tad limp and wash the windows and woodwork around them. Walls get dusted at least once a month, whether they need it or not. Now as for glass around the house,TV screens, puter screens mirrors, glass globes, light bulb, pictures etc. every two weeks keeps them up to date. Once a month or so I put a damp cloth on the end of a yard stick and tie it fast with twine and it works great to get behind that dresser and chest of drawers also terrific for behind the stove and fridge and under them. Try it..neat trick. but have a few rags ready as you may be surprised what you find. I also have taken to carrying the new dust cloths in my pocket and when I see dust..LOL..I get it..picture frames seem to be the worst catchers. I have a book from 1913 that was my great aunts and I am going to include some "household tips" from that. Some may be still used today. Taken from "Household discoveries and Mrs. Curtis Cookbook" SPRING HOUSE CLEANING Spring house cleaning should ordinarily be postponed until the weather has become sufficiently settled,so that winter underwear, draperies, carpets, etc.,may be stored away if desired, and so that the health of the household need not suffer by reason of the open windows and dampness attendant upon scrubbing floors and walls, whitewashing, painting and the like. Most women, after constant confinement during the winter months, are more or less run down in the spring, and the change from the bracing temperature of winter to the enervating warmth of the first spring days is likely to result in a lowering of tome that may expose them to serious mischief from over exertion. For these reasons there is a gradual change of sentiment in favor of making spring house cleaning a comparatively simple affair putting off the heavy work until Fall. But the spring house cleaning must be sufficiently thorough to renovate and protect all woolens, furs, and feathers from the ravages of moths, to remove heavy hangings and draperies and everything that impedes the free circulation of air during the heated term. Well how ever did those ladies before us ever get anything done with out modern convenience and my goodness furs, and feathers. Doubt that we would know what to do with them today! Hats off to the Ladies who came before us!! That's it for now, hope you enjoy this little tip and trip page Thanks for reading !!!
