Well winter was out of my house! I was through, the yard sale was a flop! No body did any business, but someone did monkey business! A carafe to an espresso machine was stole right out from under my nose! Well if they needed it that badly.. so be it.
As I sat on the front porch and looked around signs of spring were (excuse the pun) springing up. The Iris were blooming, the ramblers had buds on them and the trees were showing signs of being gorgeous. The flowering fruit trees were showing off their splendor. No this looking around didn’t satisfy me at all. That evening I looked around the yard and decided to help spring along!
Off to Walmart I went the next day, bought some annuals there and some seeds. Down the road a ways to a garden mart at a fruit stand. Picked up some fruit and looked over the plants. Made a stop at the dollar store and picked up some faux granite pots.
Well the next week I was busy putting in plants and seeds. Things sorta snowballed from there. I had purchased some potting soil, the kind they recommend on TV, no the commercial didn’t influence me because I had used it before and got excellent results.
First I put together a bathroom pedestal sink I had found in the trash! OK I’m a trash picker, but what a just saw on TV made me realize that someone was looking over my shoulder and stole my idea! No matter. I placed the sink under the bedroom window and planted it with Petunias and dianthus (later I added some parsley and basil that sprouted from seed). The large clay pots received Cosmo seeds. The Faux granite pots got the geraniums I wintered over with marigolds planted around them . The old pig trough out front got some colorful impatients. Then I noticed other things. As my husband would say.. "she’s on the Jazz!".
When I had the old maple in the front yard trimmed, a branch hit it and cracked the cement and it no longer held water. Well it received some impatience as well along with other left over plants.
Things were looking up. Did I stop there? NO. I had to push it to the wall. Everytime I went someplace I saw a must have for outside. They added up real fast.
Now I had a pot with some green peppers in it, The black cauldrons from Halloween were taken out of the shed and used to plant tomatoes in (which have nice little tomatoes on). Found a pot that a tree came in, (swiped that from my son) and became home to seeds for yellow wax beans!. Oh I kept looking and finding and filling. Nothing was sacred!
Well every thing was in! It looks nice and I am so happy!
But…the Japanese Maple looks bare... of course the foliage is gorgeous but I had to help ma nature along a tad. In the house I come and grab some houseplants that are in hanging pots and took them out to the tree. Now they look nice. Added a few wind chimes and Voila.. nice.
Then I decided to grow a few herbs from seeds, needless to say, I have been giving them away! Found a nice long clay looking pot being thrown away at the cemetery and brought that home and made it home for the bell peppers, which I may add have nice size peppers!
Went to the produce stand to get some cold cuts and produce, and they had seedlings! Here I go again. Well Jalapenos, that’ll do. More flowers... nah.
Came home and planted them in a flower box, sans the flowers. I sat looking around feeling quite pleased with my self and noticed the tiger lilies and St Joseph’s staff had buds. This was going to be a nice display!
Only one thing more to do. Fix that ugly green chair. Into the shed I go and find some spray paint. Of course Sparky had to get in on this act also. Well the chair got painted white and then I put some blue spots on it, my friend covered it with stick on flowers and I plunked it right in the middle of the ivy bed! Was that good enough for me? NO. I put a faux granite pot on it with a bright pink geranium and salmon petunias! I call it the "foozle chair".
Now Sparky and I sit on the swing in the back yard enjoying the scenery and the pond, he thinks he has the biggest water bowl and chases the squirres! Oh well no accounting for taste!
I have picked beans and herbs. I am watching the tomatoes turn yellow and waiting for the next batch of beans! Oh did I tell you I turned over the garden and planted more beans, cucumbers, parsley and snap peas. Now why ever did I do all that planting?
I love getting my hands dirty and seeing things grow!
Our back yard on Selfridge street was nothing but garden. I should be ashamed of my self.. There’s always next year!
Stay tuned!
