SUMMER TIME

It was here! Finally, my favorite month of the year but then they all were me thinks?         This was the month that school ended, and fun would begin! Long walks with pop in the mountains or around the Lehigh campus, movies, shuffle board at the Slovak Hall, Saucon Park and long lazy afternoons under the Willow Tree.

Sunday rides to the Poconos with Uncle Mike, or Helen and Jim, fishing, wading unknown creeks and lakes.

Hot lazy nites spent outside until the last minute when my head would drop in sleep, and I would be carried to my bed and slipped in between crisp cool sheets.

Chasing lightening bugs and catching them. Put in a jar so gently made with care by Pop and somehow in the morning they were gone? Mysterious .. but magical.

The ice man coming (yes we had an ice box) and pop or grammy giving me chunks of ice to suck on. Some evenings an ice cream cone from the Hershey ice cream man.

Cold birch or root bear from the Witch's cellar on a hot night. No fans, no AC, only open windows and praying for a breeze to come down from the mountain.

Summer dresses light as the breeze, the galvanized tub filled with water just perfect to live in all day and into the evening.

Watching the storm clouds building in the distance and waiting for the thunder and lightening and in the mean time the wind bringing cool air and falling asleep on the front porch....waiting.

Think back to the begining of summer when you were young. What are a few of your favorite things? We didn't have much money but we sure knew how to make our fun!
