2002 FLS - Largo Central Meet

The weather started rainy in Largo, FL. Early arriving live steamers got in running on Thursday, but--for the most part--Friday was a washout. Just a few diesels and two steamers ran in light afternoon drizzle. The forecast for Saturday was little better. Those braving the elements spent most of their time visiting at the steam bays or the registration tent. Finally, by mid-afternoon Saturday, a few brave souls ran in light to moderate mist. Sunday was another story. The day dawned bright, with a cloudless sky. Despite the wet Largo Central Park grounds, trains operated all day Sunday. Many live steamers pushed back leaving plans back so they could finally enjoy the beautiful track.

Weather presented serious problems for this web site's photographer all four days. Even when trains were running, low light levels Friday and Saturday made for poor photographic conditions. On Sunday, light was wonderful, but wet grounds discouraged those "low-down and close-up shots" we prefer. Please bear with us and we'll hope for better results in 2003.
