Dwarf plumerias make the perfect gift !

What are plumerias ?

Plumerias are beautiful, fragrant flowering plants native to central America and the West Indies.

Man has brought plumerias to other regions of the world such as Indonesia and Hawaii. Plumerias produce fragrant flowers continuously throughout the warm months of the year, and in Hawaii these flowers are used to produce the beautiful "leis" or flower necklaces used to greet visitors to the islands.

Advantages of Plumerias:

1) Beautiful, fragrant flowers.

2) Plumerias do not have to be watered every day, in fact, during drought periods without rainfall Plumerias can survive with weekly waterings, although for optimum flower production more frequent waterings are best.

3) We have observed very few insect pests and diseases.

4) Over winter storage is easier than other plants. Just place the plumerias in a shady or dark storage area which does not freeze (only if you want to preserve the leaves year round on your evergreen plumerias would you need to keep them in a bright, warm window). Water may be applied once per month during storage or not at all - no sunlight needed as they go into dormancy.

Why dwarf plumerias ?

Most cultivated varieties of plumeria are true trees in their native environment and have tall, rangy growth habits even in containers. Plumerias usually require at least 6 hours of sunlight for proper flowering. Many owners of standard sized plumerias often complain about wind damage as the tall plants often are blown over by the wind outdoors and limbs are broken off.

Dwarf plumerias are lower growing, more bushy plants, easier to manage with patio container culture and especially more suitable for those who live in apartments or condos.

Since dwarfs are less gainly and tall, they can be much easier to arrange storage space in the wintertime.

Often potential buyers who have seen both standard varieties and dwarfs prefer the dwarf growth habit for it's "cute" or miniature appearance.

Dwarf plumerias are potentially a better investment. It is possible to grow a single rooted cutting into a larger plant with 12 or more branches of cutting size within 3 years. If you achieved this growth at current prices your original investment would multiply from say $60 to $75 per cutting up to a larger plant with a projected retail value of over $400 to $750 in 3 years - plus, you would retain the mother plant for growing more cuttings. Since we are not aware how "green your thumb" is we cannot guarantee you any particular results, but we know it is possible because we have successfully grown dwarf plumerias to yield even more cuttings than this in 3 years time.

I enjoy gathering flowers from my plumerias each morning and sealing them in an "inflated" moist ziplock bag. I take them to work and the stores I visit so I can give flowers to the secretaries and workers who are always amazed and curious what plant it is and where they can obtain one for themselves. The fragrance is alluring.

Those who have ever grown roses know how much trouble with chemicals, fungicides, constant pruning and watering can be expected. In my opinion plumerias are much easier to grow and require so much less attention. Also, roses do not produce flowers well during hot weather but plumerias continue to flower all summer long, even in heat waves.

How many varieties of dwarf plumerias are available ?

We offer the two varieties which are most easily grown, the dwarf evergreen singapore pink flowered variety, and the dwarf deciduous white flower with yellow center variety. We do not offer the dwarf evergreen white flowered variety as we have found it to be a very slow grower, very finicky, tempermental and unstable. We do not feel even the above average gardener would have a high enough probability of success growing this one particular variety.

The dwarf evergreen pink Singapore flowered variety is the most bushy and compact of the 2 dwarf varieties. The flowers are quite smaller than it's cousin the dwarf deciduous and the foliage is evergreen. The flowers also are not as fragrant as the dwarf deciduous. The foliage remains intact throughout the year if kept indoors in a sunny window or a greenhouse. If kept outdoors throughout the winter the dwarf evergreen pink Singapore will loose it's leaves.

The dwarf deciduous white flowered variety looses it's leaves when cool conditions prevail in the fall. In the spring new leaves appear. The white flowers with yellow center are quite a bit larger than the dwarf evergreen singapore flowers and produce much more fragrance in my opinion. Also, I have noticed the dwarf deciduous white flowered variety are more reliable producing flowers through the warm season (even in heat waves).

Why purchase dwarf plumerias from me ?

1) I specialize in dwarf plumerias. I have been studying the culture of dwarfs over 10 years so I feel I have learned best how to feed and care for their unique requirments in order to offer you a special plant which is as robust and healthy as possible for a great start.

2) I strongly suggest only healthy, fully rooted, living plumeria plants to increase your probability of success. Many other growers also offer unrooted cuttings. It is common for buyers to see a 50% or 65% rate of rooting for dwarf plumeria cuttings, sometimes even lower. Why take a chance on the unknown when you can receive a healthy, fully rooted, living plant from me ? I currently am shipping rooted cuttings and very well rooted plants in 1.5 gallon cans (rooted over 2 years) for a better price than my competitors.

3) All my plants are innoculated with a special, beneficial, EPA registered microbe which helps a great deal to prevent any root rots and diseases. No other grower I know offers this feature.

4) Our healthy fully rooted living plumeria cuttings have a 3 month or better "head start" over unrooted cuttings, since the root systems are already established and the plants are actively growing on their own roots. If you have never attempted to root a plumeria, unrooted plumeria cuttings usually "sit" for about 6 to 8 weeks before any roots may even begin to appear.

5) The dwarf plumerias are somewhat more difficult to root than the standard plumerias. Trying to economize on obtaining dwarf plumerias by purchasing unrooted cuttings may result in your being frustrated. The success rate of attempting to root cuttings is reduced drastically under cooler conditions - most cuttings will simply rot-off. We only root our cuttings in Texas during a narrow window of opportunity from late May through the end of June/first part of July. By offering only healthy, fully rooted, living plumeria cuttings and plants we can ship to you year round - depending on your locale and weather, offering you a better chance of success in your endeavors. One grower offers to replace the cutting if it did not root for you. But what about the 2 month time delay you loose if the first cutting did not root and he has to send you another still UNrooted cutting ? Sure any grower can go out and chop a branch off a plumeria, throw it in a box and ship it to you. Another grower trumpets about how easy it is to root plumerias (but ask him specifically about dwarf plumerias and what his guarantee is if your cutting does not root). Our cuttings are already rooted and ready to ship -- be certain to ask any grower before you buy -- many will take your order and then start the 6 to 8 week rooting process. I believe you deserve more. You can avoid all these potential discouragements by purchasing healthy, fully rooted, living plumeria plants from me to begin with.

6) I want you to be a satisfied customer and spread the word to your friends and coworkers. Since I am a small businessperson, when you communicate with me you talk directly with the owner/grower - not some secretary or phone order taker who does not understand plumeria culture.

7) One free "grab bag" plant of a different specie is included with every order !

8) Our Best Price Guarantee ! If you find already rooted dwarf plumeria cuttings of the same cultivar for a lower published price, just send me the evidence and we will beat that price by 5% and gladly refund the difference to you.
