DweaM's Review: Visit to the Madora George Michael Salon on Madison Avenue |
For my birthday, July 2002, my hubby let me splurge on a visit to the Madora George Michael Long Hair Salon on Madison Avenue. I had visited the Salon 2 years ago and did not particularly care for my past experience there. The woman inspected my hair, cut off a couple of split ends, pushed their hair products and charged me $80 for the "consultation". I ended up buying a bunch of products, going by her advice, w hich didn't work for my hair type. I left there with an empty wallet and the hopes that the products would perform miracles on me. In the interim, I have trusted my hair to very few stylists, since they all tug and pull on your hair and INSIST on the blow fryer, not to mention cutting off more than what you ask for. They usually become very impatient with me since I bring my own comb in order to detangle my hair before they are allowed to trim. Afterwards, I would generally go home with my hair wet since blowing it out was out of the question. Not great in the winter. I decided to give Madora's Salon a nother try since it became quite evident that I needed to seek a "long hair conscious" salon. To be frank, it was a toss up between GM and the Long Hair Care Group. I called both and then it came down to price. Madora was the better value and there is no price on the GM reputation that stands behind her Salon. I was attended to by Ruby, a very sympathetic and sensitive to her clients operator. She made me feel welcomed the minute I was assigned to her. I had to wait a bit before beginning my treatment since the Salon was qutie busy on a Saturday morning. I saw the jar of the GM Scalp Treatment just sitting there and decided to take a peek at the ingredients. It basically contains the same stuff that's in the Cream Rinse. It had a couple of other ingredients in it like cones and other stuff to make it thick. I think the real "mystery" behind this treatment is the application (taking small pieces of hair and applying the product to the sections and then wrapping each section to contruct a bun atop of the head. Then, carefully packing the head in wax paper), finally under a heat cap for 1 full hour. This time, Ruby did not try to sell me any products whatsoever and she complimented my hair in its natural state several times. She made me feel that I was caring for my hair well eventhough I wasn't satisfied with the condition of my it due to hard water. After the roller set, I saw for myself the results of the treatment. All I can say is WOW. It was sooooooo soft and smelled nice. She then took me to the back to shape my hair. I told her I wanted a U shape in the back, and of course, that is a no no at the GM Salon, but she waited until Madora wasn't looking, and shaped my hair the way I wanted. In the light, my hair was gimmering and sooooo silky. I was in hair heaven! (I even got hair compliments from two of the other clients) Ruby put my hair up in a french twist since I informed her I would have a very long walk home in this damp heat wave we've been having. She refused to spray or gel it so it would remain silky once I got home. I must eat my words regarding my first visit to this Salon. It really does make a difference who takes care of you when you go. If any of you are ever in NYC, go to see Ruby at the GM Salon on Madison Avenue...she's absolutely wonderful! It was definitely worth the $140 + tip!!! |
