This area is so named because it is here the first hill of the hill trod rests. His Grace, Duke Ewan lives here, and the immediate area around it is known (to add to the confusion) as the Barony of Twin Hills. The Hold of the First Hill is a highly magical place, to fae eyes a labyrinth of forest that leads into Freehold proper.
The base of the Hill has a manor from where the Baron rules, it to is a hold, so close as to almost be part of the Ducal one. The Baron there is a Grump Troll named Tor'tan Hildane. He handles much in the local day to day running of the area, modestly defering to his superiors on graver matters.
In a town called Freedom, the commoner kith gather and discuss matters in their own Freehold. Bastian had placed it under their care, and Aurora has given them even more power in it and the surrounding area. Rather than calling that area a 'Barony', it is simply referred to as the Free Territory. Despite Ewan's fears, the place has not turned into another Firnost. Politics is a bit of a mania with the kithain of the area, perhaps a result of having the hold in the old (and abandoned) town meeting hall. Everything from Democracy, to Communism is discussed here. A few die hards among the commoners even argue strongly for sidhe rule. In exchange for running their own show, they are lightly taxed, must enforce the Escheat, and make weekly reports. They've been good on all but the last.
Aurora's sacrifice to protect the childlings at this Hold, has forever endeared her in the hearts of all commoners here. A statue of her may now be found. She bears no crown, but a blade, she guards the path to the trod here, stance ready, defiance in her eyes. Even the writing holds no title...the engraving on the stone simply says ‘Here died Aurora. Freedom's Shield -April 23rd, 2001’
Just outside a park known for it's biking paths, one can find (in the guise of a mortal bicycle repair shop) the only Dougal holding in the land. The fief and the holding share the same name, "The Winding Wheel". Seeking ever better designs for cycling enthusiasts everywhere, this tiny area does not trouble with politics.
