The St. Vincent de Paul group at St. Vincent de Paul parish (1408 S 10th St, just across Hwy 55 from Soulard Mkt) meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm. New people are always welcome. Our work helps provide rent, utilities, job referral assistance, and a listening ear to those who are in need. The day will feature interior tours of four beautiful Catholic churches, Mass at the New Cathedral, and dinner afterward. We’ll depart from New Cathedral parking lot at noon, tour St. Vincent DePaul Church @ 12:15, tour the Old Cathedral @ 1:15, tour St. Francis de Sales Church @ 2:15, and tour the New Cathedral at 3:15. We’ll attend the 5:00 Mass at the Cathedral and have dinner afterwards in the CWE. Tickets are $20; please note that the ticket price does include transportation, but does not include dinner. Move from “doing service” to “living justly.” Explore our church's rich tradition of justice and how to integrate it into your daily life and career. Spend an extended weekend in prayer and discussion on these topics with a theologian, peace activists, Viatorian brothers and priests, and young adults. The institute will include discussion sessions on Catholic theology of justice and on non-violent living with evening opportunities for prayer, reflection and worship. This institute is open to young adults (ages 19-39) with prior experience in service who want to delve more deeply into how our lives can help change systems that create the need for service projects. The HikeClub coordinates day hikes of about 4 - 10 miles. Most hikes are on weekends and within a 1 hour drive or less of West St. Louis County. We have over 140 members, and about 3 - 8 people show up for each hike. Anyone is welcome to plan a hike, but no one is obligated. There is no cost to join our group. We have a very diverse group of members of all ages and skill levels. Each week before a hike, we send an email to everyone on the distribution list. (All emails addresses are kept private.) The email contains all of the details of the hike including the name, address, and phone number of the park; the trail name and length; directions to the trail head and meeting place; and any additional info that might be important such as whether or not dogs are allowed. To receive these emails you must send an email requesting to be added to the HikeClub of St. Louis Distribution List to: hikeclubofstlouis@yahoo.com. Catholic Kids Net of St. Louis is offering two great programs for parents. 1) "Discipline Can Be Fun" is a look at Christ-like leadership in the home, with the emphasis on positive parenting techniques that bring out the joy in family life. 2) "Stressed or Blessed? Making Extracurriculars Work for Your Family" is a practical seminar designed to help today's busy families make good decisions about schedules and activities.
