THEY WERE LED BY SONG WRITER TONY MORTIMER, WHO SUCCESSFULLY MANAGED TO COMBINE SOME OF THE MOST POPULAR MUSIC STYLES: R&B,HIP-HOP,AMERICAN RAP AND POP. SINCE THEIR APPEARANCE ON THE MUSIC SCENE THEY INSTANTLY BECAME ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR TEEN-GROUP. THE BAND CONSISTS OF: TONY MORTIMER,BRIAN HARVEY,TERRY COLDWELL AND JOHN HENDY. THEY STARTED WITH SOME DEMO SONGS AND THEY WERE LUCKY TO MEET TOM WALTKINS,WHO ALSO LAUNCHED THE CAREERS OF THE PET SHOP BOYS AND BROS. HE INTRODUCED THEM TO LONDON RECORDS, SO EAST17 STARTED WITH THEIR FIRST SINGLE, HOUSE OF LOVE, SUPPORTED BY LONDON RECORDS. 600.000 COPIES OF THIS SINGLE WERE SOLD. IN 1993 THEY RELEASED THEIR FIRST ALBUM, WALTHAMSTOW WHICH WAS #1 IN ENGLAND.
