Wiring Radar detector to Sunroof switch

by: Beamin' (from www.BimmerForums.com)

1. Pop out the sun roof switch using your fingernails or a screw driver.

2. Put your finger in the hole and pull down on the panel. the whole thing will come down, but you have to pull hard.

3. Disconect the sun roof switch.

4. Pop out the three lights (dome light and two map lights)

5. There will be 5 wires comming out of it. Three browns and two othe colors that I can't remenber. I believe that brown w/ a black stripe is the ground. Check with your ohm meter. I remember cuting two browns and one being for the lights to come on with the door open. One of the other two wires is your constant power, I think it was green but double check!

6. Cut your radardetector cord so it is about a foot long. Usualy red is + and white is -. But double check! Yours could be different.

7.If you want to make your life easy, buy little tiny wire nuts. I tried soldering, that was a bitch and it was to cold for electrical tape. you will have very short wires to work with, so don't strip off to much insulation. Also your Radar dectector wires will be so thin the will need to be doubled up to work with the wire connector.

8. After its all wired check to see that your detector comes on and that all of the light function properly.

9. Use some care stuffing all the wires back in there. I had the problem where the wire nuts were too big, and didn't want to fit. After about ten frustrating minutes I got them all in position where the wires would fit.

10. Run the Radar wire out between the dome lights and the sun roof switch pannel in the corner. This will make sure you dont have to dill anything. you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it.

11. Put in the dome lights, Put the pannel back on(bang the shit out of it to get it to stay) and plug in the sun roof switch. Make sure its facing the right way after you put it in , so that forward is close, back is open.

12. Velco your detector to the visor so it can be fliped down or ripped off in an emergency. When the visor is down you cant see the wire or the detector from where a cop would be standing at your window.
