Romeo’s Kiss - Chapter Two

Julie walked down the long hall; she observed the old, white walls with little cracks here and there and little initials where people had written on them. She laughed when she came upon the little cartoon man she had drawn just a few short years ago. Even though it had been three years she could still remember exactly when she drew and why she drew it, it was a cartoon making fun of one of the teachers there at the school. She continued to walk down the hall and into the large cafeteria over to a table consisting of her best friends. She plopped down in the empty seat next to Codi and laid her head down on the table, using her arms as a sort of pillow. She sighed heavily and Codi laughed at her. She raised her head up and looked at Codi who had a grin on her face and was looking down at her.

“What’s your problem?” Julie mumbled.

“The way you seem to have a million problems, and you act like you have one more. So what’s up?” Codi said with a mouth full of nasty cafeteria food in which she didn’t mind eating.

“I just found out that my parents are going one of their friends parties this weekend, and I’m being forced to go, seeing how you’ll be in Wilburton.” Julie confessed as she rested her head on her hand, she moved her finger around on the table in a figure eight as she looked at the contents on Codi’s plate. “So what kind of road kill are they feedin’ ya today?” She said only half joking.

“I think its spaghetti but don’t quote me on that.” Codi joked back; Gloria who was sitting across the table from Codi made a face as she held up her food with a fork and they all laughed. When the laughter died down Codi turned back to Julie.

“Y’know, you could go to Wilburton with us if you want-“

“No that’s ok.” She quickly cut in. Codi shrugged it off and pick up a pea from her plate; she sat it on her spoon expertly and flicked it off onto another table. That caused a stir from an already angered classmate, Christy. Christy picked up some smashed potatoes with a spoon from her plate and launched it at Codi, but instead of hitting Codi hit Julie, who then took some o the beans from Codi plate and threw them, which landed in Laura’s lap. Soon the whole cafeteria was in an all out war.

Brian had been sitting behind Julie with his friends at the next table, when the food fight started he tried to make his way to the closest exit just as Julie was doing the same, they ran right into each other, and both of them turned around, grabbed a spoon full of food from plates left and forgotten on the tables and turned back around to rub it in each others faces only, the principle got in the way. Both Brian and Julie looked up at the man with potato and ketchup smeared on his face and silently prayed that they could run before this mad principle could catch them. Instead they stood there frozen like little scared puppies who just ran into a monster lurking around the corner.  Principle Hester grabbed the two teenagers by the back of their shirts as he yelled out to the cafeteria; everyone stopped dead in their tracks and looked at him.

“Who’s responsible for this!?” He shouted out. Everyone looked around for a second, some shrugged their shoulders, but everyone else just pointed to Julie and Brian, out of shier irresponsibleness. Principle Hester took Brian and Julie to his office where they sat in the two chairs in front of his wide oak desk with papers sprawled everywhere. After explaining the hole thing, principle Hester called each of their parents and told them they would be expelled for one day, after some pleading from Brian parents they were fried of that implement and were just sent home for the day. Both of them had to walk home…

“Y’know, I really hate you.” Julie blurted out as they walked on the opposite sides of the road from each other, making their way to their homes for the day.

“Gee thanks for sharing that with me. Ya know, this is really bothering me, why can’t we just forget about this hole thing and be friends?” Brian asked as he made his way over to Julie’s side of the road, thy stopped and he held out his hand as a sign of peace. Julie looked at him for a moment as though she were thinking it over but then shook her head violently and gave a short laugh.

“Never.” She snorted and kept walking.
