Mariah Carey- Charmbracelet World Tour
Aladdin Theatre (Las Vegas)
December 20, 2003
The concert was great but I would have to say the first time I saw her was slightly better in the sense the venue was nicer. Also, there was more of a coherent theme which this one lacked. But then again, Mariah Carey was still amazing and her voice was off the hook! She was hitting high notes everywhere and on two occasions I thought she was going to shatter glass even though I know that's impossible. She was also more communicative with the audience. I was blown away by how nice she was to the fans- waving and singing "Happy Birthday" to them and receiving the fan books they made. My favorite part of the show was when this guy dressed up in full Santa Claus attire handed her a book and asked for her autograph while she was singing. WHILE SHE WAS SINGING! Her expression of "Are you serious?" was priceless. Another time, she tried to incorporate a joke about hitting the jackpot with her intro to Make It Happen but it didn't quite go off as well as she hoped but she just continued talking and she laughed at herself a second later.

Anyway, the merchandise choices were disappointing. They hardly had anything but I did buy myself the calendar for $25.

I was in the fourth row. I couldn't believe how close to the stage I was. Mike Tyson was there and people in the Golden Circle were joking why he couldn't get a better seat. He was probably 5 rows behind me. Sadie- The Automatic Princess "Pow, pow, pow"- was the opening act. She was cute. The actual show started late though (as usual.) The stage was decorated with Christmas trees on either end, a screen in the center with a stairway lined with poinsettias.

When the show finally did start, Mariah had to walk on the aisle for the Heartbreaker medley. She was only a few feet away from me- like a seat away- at one time. She looked so beautiful and she really looked fit.

She replaced "Clown," "Subtle Invitation," and "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" with more festive selections like "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Joy to the World" and "All I Want for Christmas is You." The band intro was different and she told a story about one of her back-up dancers. She must have told the story before because I saw some people mouthing her every word.

Her voice cracked at a few places but I think Mariah amazed even herself with her high notes. There were a few different costumes from the last show but the hot Santa outfit she wore at the end almost compensated for the ostrich feather dress that she looked so beautiful in last time.

I still couldn't clap along with the rhythm and some people around me were being mean, telling the other fans to sit down. Why go if you're going to ruin it for the people who actually want to be there? Anyway, was it worth it? Definitely! I didn't want anything else for Christmas because I already got what I wanted.
