Minerals in Igneous Rock

 

I.               Magma is a mixture of Liquids, solids and gases

A.         Mostly of oxygen and silica which forms an atomic structure called a Silicate Tetrahedron

1.            This is the basic unit to most rock forming minerals

 

II.         Igneous rocks are classified by texture and composition

A.         When magma cools and hardens, intrusive rocks are formed

B.          The rock is named based on the Iron and Magnesium minerals

C.          Different rocks form as temperature changes

D.         Porphyry often develops in Igneous rock
