Here's one of  my  Clematis Vines growing on a fence.. Clematis like the sun but need their roots shaded.
HINT: Put a low growing plant in front of the Clematis to shield the roots..

Let's go down the wooden path and enter my backyard garden which has little sun or full shade. Some areas get an hour or less of sun.
Allium growing in the  part shade  garden.  This bulb blooms in Spring here in MN. It's winter hardy and doesn't have to be dug  up every  fall.  Allium is considered  to be a member of the onion family.

Blue Creeping Phlox is a  ground cover  that multiplies . It adds some nice color in the spring to a shady garden. Blooms here in the Spring.
The Pearl, with its tiny white flower, on the right, is a great flower to dry for wreaths etc.  I started my  plants from seeds and they return every year.
Lush tall ferns and blue columbine growing  in the shade.
Astilbes growing in a mostly shady area. Astilbes like the ground damp and if the conditions are to their liking, they'll last for years. They add a soft touch to a shady area.
