The Missing Daughter |
A long time ago, |
A story I was told. |
It was about a missing daughter, |
And she wasn't very old. |
Many nights I would listen |
To the sadness and she cried. |
Like others she had secrets, |
But about you she never lied. |
On the outside she seemed happy, |
Masquerading her inner strife. |
Though she always believed |
Someday you would be in her life. |
At times she acted different, |
Always being the same way. |
Then I finally realized |
It was around your birthday. |
Then something happened, |
As plain as you could see. |
Not only were you a part of her, |
You'd become a part of me. |
Then I understood |
How she had always felt. |
And down on our knees |
In prayer we knelt. |
Finally our prayers were answered, |
But not through a single word. |
He had His own way of listening, |
Through our hearts He had heard. |
No longer the missing daughter, |
For you had been found. |
Now life is complete, |
A family forever bound. |
After being reunited with your mother |
this picture was made the first time I saw |
you. Your younger sister was working on |
on a riverboat and we went there because |
you had never been. |
I doubt if at that time, or maybe even |
now you realize how much that night |
meant to me. The first thing I thought |
when I saw you was how much you |
looked like a picture I had seen of |
your grandmother when she was |
younger. Then as the night went on |
and we spent more time together reality |
set in I knew in my heart you were no |
longer the missing daughter. You had |
become the daughter found. |
