Altoona is now represented in the Eastern League by the Altoona Curve, the AA farm club for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team played its first game in 1999. Click here to go to their website.
In 1996 Altoona fielded an independent team in the North Atlantic Baseball League. This team was called the Altoona Rail Kings. In 1997 with NABL fell apart, and the Rail Kings played in the Heartland League. With the announcement of the granting of the AA franchise, the Rail Kings moved to Huntingdon, WV. They folded during the 1998 season.
