June 2001 - Andy is doing great. I should probably change the first part of the main page because he doesn't mind the doctors or the radiology department any more. The bone scans are still a little scary for him but he doesn't mind the other scans. He was laughing and having a great time through his ultrasound this time. He watched the screen while the technician ran the wand very quickly across Andy's tummy. The picture changed quickly and Andy got the biggest kick out of watching it. The nurse commented that Andy and the technician were having way too much fun. He told someone he was going to the hospital and they asked 'oh, are you sick?'. He said 'No ! I'm going to play with the toys!'. He looked at her as if to say 'what does being sick have to do with the hospital?'. When he visited his grandfather in the hospital he was telling everyone 'MY hospital has a train and MY hospital has toys'. He loves his oncologist and looks forward to seeing him. We have come a long way from all the tantrums and the 'I pitched a fit' stickers. He doesn't seem to remember any of the bad stuff. He is a normal three year old in every way. Andy is more than two years post diagnosis and 18 months off treatment. He will now be getting scans every six months instead of every three months. He will see his oncologist in three months but no scans. |
