The Method Feeder
Here is the typical Method feeder set up. The mainline should be set up with an 8lb breaking strain limit this is because the weight of the feeder will snap the main line if it is below the 8lb mark. Many anglers now use brain instead of mono which has its advantages and disadvantages. This Method feeder is just a typical method feeder brought from any local tackle shop which cost from around £2.50. There is a strong elastic ran though the feeder to add some extra strength and boost those carp catches which will help the hook set better in the fishes mouth which also acts like a shock absorber. The hooklenght is very short at around 2 inches with at least 4lb hook tie as the carp at Earlswood average 4lb and run like a rocket once hooked( even this hooklength is still a bit weak). The hook which I use is the new Mustard Stillwater power size 14 which has the strength to handle the carp and big enough to hook a bait like sweetcorn or luncheon meat.

Tips
When using the method feeder the carp will be pecking constantly at the Method feeder which results in the tip viciously wrapping round and constantly moving but WAIT don't be fooled there just pecking at the groundbait. Wait until your rod flies off the rest and results in positive bite when the tip will wrap round and stay there that's when you lift the rod and play the fish.
Loading up the Method Feeder.
1.Place the Method feeder in the groundbait and squeeze a hard ball around the method feeder until the feeder is covered with groundbait.2 then place your hook bait in the center. 3.Place more groundbait around the line until the it's hidden but the hookbait is clearly showing.
The Feeder Rig
Here is the standard paternoster rig made from a 20" hook length of around 4lb which will be a good hook tie as well as enough strength to cope with the feeder and groundbait. The hook is the same as the method feeder with a size 14 to start off with then if your pulling out change the hook size. With the rig you can either use a feeder or a lead both work just as well. The idea of using a hook length of 20 to start of with is so that if your not catching at 20 shorten or make the hook length longer try both and see if you hit those bites better.
Setting Up The Rests
When fishing the method, fedder or lead position your rod at a 90 degrees angle this will give you a clear idea when you will get a bite as the rod will wrap round and stay their. Just by looking down the rod you will get a clear indication of a take.
