The Willys CJ3A was the follow-up of the CJ2A. It was built from 1948 till 1953; the military version was the M38/MC. Some key-features:

- 7-slotted grill;
- headlights before grill;
- one-piece windhield with airvents;
- tailgate;
- Willys stamped in sides of hood;
- sparewheel carried at right side;
- same model engine as MB (with minor diffenrences);
- casting number on engine head: 640161 (also used for late-production MB's);
- casting number on engine block 641145
