About me and my life |
|
|
|
Well, predictably this page is going to be about me, my life, my friends and so on. Of course, the rest of the site already is about that, but this is just so you can put a face to names (anyone I email regularly will know names but will never have seen the people they belong to!). I moved 12,000 miles from my home over eight years ago and this is a way to meld my old life and my new life together. It's been ages since I updated this page and in that time music has become a way of life for me, specifically Celtic music. I play bodhran (Irish drum), bouzouki, guitar and I sing! I'm in a band and we've played at the annual NZ Pagan Festival twice now. Great fun! |

This is Maud Hanitzsch (I've probably spelt her name wrong but I'll correct that!). She came over to New Zealand in 1998 for 6 months' study and we had a ball while she was here! Hard times and good times were had by all but at the end we're still friends and keep in touch via email. After Maud and I, along with her friend Uwe, painted Birmingham red, she moved back to Germany where she now lives. Her boyfriend Andy lives in Wellington and I hope he and I will meet up in a few weeks for a coffee. Or ten. |

For those of you who are now very curious, this is Angel. It's not a fantastic picture of him but it's the best I can come up with for now until I can make him let me take a good one! Angel is one of the best musicians I know (come to the Dog's Bollix bar in Auckland on a Saturday night if you don't believe me!) and one of my closest friends. He's extremely intelligent, good at languages (to my shame!), drinks scotch and laughs a lot. He's also very good friends with Conor, and plays in two bands - the Dog's Bollix (more on them later) and his own band Ghengis Carney. See the link on my links page or click on the CD cover (right) to hear some of Ghengis Carney's excellent music. |

Can you tell I like this band? Can you?!! |

This is the one and only picture I have of Angel and I together (though he has promised me a nudie-arty one!). It was taken about 2 and a half years ago though neither of us have changed much. My hair's a bit longer now - that was the result of a very over-zealous hairdresser!! Never again. Angel's shirt says 'Cuchulainn' - he was in a band named after the great Ulster hero of legend. |

This is my friend Carmel Treacy standing inside her shop, Sheela-na-gig. Carmel is a Wiccan and a very good one at that. She honours a lot of Celtic deities, practices astrology, reads tarot, and is really good with herbs. The shop has close now due to the pressure of overseas internet clients, but you can email Carmel (sheela@ihug.co.nz) if you want her products. They are also available in various shops around the country. Unfortunately for us the shop's no longer there but Carmel's still trading on the net: Sheela-na-gig |

My current favourite band in Wellington is called Ballyscully. They play at Molly Malone's on a Tuesday night, and in a slightly different format (as You Three!) on Sundays. I'll try and find a good picture of them and post it up here. |
