The process of transformation within the heart is described
beautifully in the following five verses of Srimad Bhagavatam. This is
actually the complete summary of Bhagavata philosophy.

"To hear about Krishna from Vedic literatures, or to hear from Him
directly through the Bhagavad-gita, is itself righteous activity. And
for one who hears about Krishna, Lord Krishna who is dwelling in
everyone's heart, acts as a best-wishing friend and purifies the
devotee who constantly engages in hearing of Him. In this way, a
devotee naturally develops his dormant transcendental knowledge. As he
hears more about Krishna from the Bhagavatam and from the devotees, he
becomes fixed in the devotional service of the Lord. By development of
devotional service one becomes freed from the modes of passion and
ignorance, and thus material lusts and avarice are diminished. When
these impurities are wiped away, the candidate remains steady in his
position of pure goodness, becomes enlivened by devotional service and
understands the science of God perfectly. Thus bhakti-yoga severs the
hard knot of material affection and enables one to come at once to the
stage of 'asamshayam-samagram,' understanding of the Supreme Absolute
Truth Personality of Godhead."
                                         - Translation given by Sri A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in his Gita commentary which allows the subjects to flow smoothly and perfectly.

"If you cannot purify yourself by any endeavor whatsoever, then just go sit with Vaishnavas and you will achiveve all auspiciousness."

- Sri Ramanujacarya
(Quoted in Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura's Bhaktyaloka)

"How can he practice true compassion who eats the flesh of an animal to fatten his own flesh? Greater than a thousand ghee offerings consumed in sacraficial fires is to not sacrifice and consume any living creature."

  - Tirukural 251,259

"What is the greatest virtue in the world? What religion always bears fruits? What is it that which if controlled never leads men to misery? And with whom does friendship never break?"
"Abstention from harming any creature is the greatest virtue. The religion of the three Vedas is always friutful. The mind if controlled never leads to misery, and friendship with the righteous never breaks."
"What is it that, by renouncing, makes a man dear to others? What is it which if given up never leads to misery? What is it which if renounced leads to wealth, and what is it which if renounced leads to happiness?"
"Giving up pride makes one dear. Abandoning anger never leads to misery. Desire, if renounced, makes one wealthy, and abandonment of avarice leads to happiness."
"Who in this world is happy? What is the most wonderful thing? What are the tidings of this world, and how can one find the eternal path of religion?"
"He who is neither in debt nor exiled and who lives simply, eating simple food in his own home, is happy. The most wonderful thing is that although every day innumerable creatures go to the abode of death, still a man thinks he is immortal. The tidings are that in this world--which is like a caulron with the sun as its fire, days and nights as its fuel, and months and seasons as its wooden ladle--all cretures are being cooked by time. The eternal religious path is found only in the heart of great mystics."

"Krishn-chanting purifies the mirror of the heart, subsides the agonizing fire of the material mind, develops the cool effulgence of divine-love, brings forth the Divine knowledge and spouts the bliss of Krishn-love that brings complete divine contentment at every step of his life. Such an experience of Krishn-love exceeds the blissful experiences of all the Divine abodes and holds its supreme superiority."
