Tears shed in the silence
searching for the One
He who died on Calvary
for the sinners we've become ~
But yet we weep in mourning
for that which isn't there,
The tomb that now lay empty
in hearts everywhere.
Throughout the course of wisdom
the knowledge we behold
Still we yearn for something
so deep within our souls ~
Searching but never finding
what we thought we always knew
Somehow seems so far away
from that which is the Truth.
We took a life so innocent
and we hung Him on a Cross
Yet we expect exemption
'cause somehow we were lost!
Though the pain we feel in hindsight
is nothing that compares
To everything He bore for us
in our sinful despairs.
In selfish restitution
we turned and looked away
So we'd not have to witness
the pain He wore that day ~
Weeping in our sorrow
but not enough to bear
Our own sins and shame and tears
that kept Him nailed there.
So now we have a role to play
as children in His name
While walking in His footsteps yet
to keep deferring blame ~
Being "perfect" Christians
as we journey on His path
We find that we're misguided
and the way is rough and dark.
He knew what we were doing
and how we broke His heart
But still we keep on sinning
on life's tempting golden path ~
And though we search for answers
it's like we never knew
The sacrifice He made for us
when buried in that tomb.
Although the stone is rolled away
still we come to seek
The tomb that now lay empty there
with yet more tears to weep ~
For mortal understanding
cannot quite comprehend
That far beyond Eternity
death is not the end.
We'll never know perfection
until we're in that place
Walking on the streets of gold
and in His warm embrace ~
But still let's keep on striving
yes, seek Him if you dare,
But don't search an empty tomb for Him
for He is no longer there.
