This was a simple 2 piece make-up. There was the nose and forehead piece and the chin and cheek piece. The blending edge is clearly visible, however, it looks like natural lines on the demon's face. The nasolabial folds and sides of the nose are actually the edges of the pieces! I always try to blend appliances were the edges will be disguised by natural lines and wrinkles. Making a multi-piece make-up is really very simple. Alcote a new hydrocal lifecast and sculpt the finished make-up. When the sculpture is complete to your satisfaction cut it up into individual appliances using an exact-o knife. soak the cast in water to reactivate the alcote and " float" the clay off the lifeast. Before you make any mols, you have to know what order you are going to apply the appliances in. For instance, I applied the nose forehead piece first, with the chin and cheeks overlapping that. Here's how I did that. I carefully removed the cheek and chin appliance sculpture from the lifecast and set it aside. I then cast the lifecast, with the nose and forehead appliance sculpture, using alginate and made an Ultra-cal mold of that. I I secured the chin and cheek appliance onto this mold. I blended the appliance right up onto the other appliance. I then molded te other appliance normally. That is how you make applianes overlap. |
