GRE ~ Goal Statement Essay ~ Intent/Hints for Grad School

A graduate education has been proven beneficial. Salaries for those with advanced degrees surpass those of graduates with bachelor’s degrees. The types of careers available and the variety of the types all increase for those with graduate training, and the levels of job satisfaction are greater.

Succeeding in graduate school is not a process that can be taken lightly, and as anything else worth having, it requires a great deal of work. Graduate study typically refers to programs that award master’s or doctorate degrees.

Master’s degrees usually involve one to two years of coursework, a comprehensive examination over that coursework, and in some cases, a thesis.  Doctoral programs can require anywhere from two to four years of coursework, comprehensive exams, and a dissertation.

Applying to Graduate School entails a very detailed and sometimes stressful process.  Adaptive testing is indicated depending on what type of program applied to.  The GRE is usually a requirement with most schools.  The GMAT is used for entrance into business school. LSAT is used for law school entrance.  The list goes on.....

I am currently in the process of applying to graduate school.  This process is far from easy. But well worth the effort. The schools I am applying to are the University of Michigan (first choice), University of North Carolina (second choice), University of Illinois (third choice), and University of San Francisco.  I researched all schools pretty well.  I used the latest findings from the U. S News and World Reports.  This site is quite informative.

Below is a timeline Kaplin (a preparatory site for all graduate school exams) recommends for prospective students.
