Game Previews and Recaps

Week 6 Recaps
Haddonfield (3-3) 41 - Baton Rouge (2-4) 6
Haddonfield needed to win to remain in 2nd place in the East. The Pumpkins have started their third different QB in as many games. Marshall went 17-25 for 309 yards and 4 TD. More importanly he didn't throw any interceptions. Baton Rouge LB Rodney Waddle had another good game versus the Pumpkins, making 9 tackles. Haddonfield host Arkhma next week, while Baton Rouge hosts Duluth.
Long Beach (4-2) 84 - Denver (3-3) 24
The Long Beach All Stars have now won 4 in a row. Their triple threat really proved to be too much for Denver's defense to handle. All Stars HB Mike Penn had a career day. Penn ran 33 times for 287 yards and 6 TD's. Penn also caught 3 balls for 172 yards and 3 more TDs. Penn had a season high 459 total yards and 9 total TDs. Denver HB Chris Barnes had another 100 yard game. Barnes ran for 109 yards on just 19 carries. Long Beach travels to Pullman next week in a game for first place. Denver visits New Deal.
New Deal (4-2) 45 Duluth (2-4) 12
In their previous meeting, New Deal was outplayed in almost every aspect of the game except the final score. This game was different. The Lions defense held the Moose to just 219 total yards. WR Earl Henley continued his dominance with 17 catches for 257 yards and 4 TDs. Duluth got a good performance from HB Antwann Newburry. Newburry ran for 69 yards and recieved for 111 more. Newburry finished with 180 total yards and both of the Moose's TDs. New Deal host Denver next week for 3rd place. Duluth visits Baton Rouge.
Pullman (5-1) 44 Virginia Beach (0-6) 0
Pullman proved today why they are the best team in the West Division. Pullman was held to just 265 total yards, but still put up 44 points. WR Jason Jefferson paced Pullman again with 9 catches for 116 yards and 2 TD's. Pullman also got a great game from DL Marcus Terrell who sacked Virginia Beach QB Angelo Dominic 6 times. Virginia Beach's defense has been improving a little more each week. Their problems have been inside the red zone their offense isn't turning drives into points. The Panthers did get a solid game out of WR Aaron Williams, Williams had 12 receptions for 120 yards. Pullman will host Long Beach in a game for first place, while Virginia Beach visits Texas.
Texas (5-1) 76 Arkham (2-4) 0
Texas has just dominated Arkham this season. Texas has been scoring points at a record pace. Texas had a balanced rushing and passing attack that totaled 706 yards. QB Brandon Stone continued on his MVP march by hitting 34-39 320 yards and 7 TDs. HB Anthony Gibson also helped out by rushing for more than 300 yards. Arkham WR Jay Shines had 7 catches for 64 yards. Texas hosts Virginia Beach next week, while Arkham visits Haddonfield.

ECFL I Team Previews
EASTERN DIVISION

TEAM NAME: Texas Outlaws
COACH : James Isham
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH:   First
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH:   HB Anthony Gibson
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH:   CB Frank Lee

HB Anthony Gibson ran all over the competition in preseason, and should rank up among the leaders in rushing. CB Frank Lee in his debut with Texas intercepted 4 passes and returned 1 for a touchdown. Texas seems to have the correct balance between an explosive offense and a bone crushing defense.

TEAM NAME: Arkham Grave Robbers
COACH : Dev Napoli
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Second
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: WR Jay Shines
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: DL Renaldo Johnson

WR Jay Shines was totally unstoppable in the preseason. If Shines can continue his dominance, Arkham has a serious shot at going all the way. DL Renaldo Johnson is very good at stuffing the run and is a sack master. Arkham has the necessary players to make a run, but do they have enough to surpass Texas?

TEAM NAME: Haddonfield Pumpkins
COACH : George E. Nebesnik
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Third
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: QB William Hellinger
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: SS Lorenzo Newsome

QB William Hellinger tore up the preseason with the deep ball. Hellinger needs to protect the ball for the Pumpkins to make the playoffs. SS Lorenzo Newsome could become one of the best safeties in the game. Newsome has a great feel for the ball and plays very well against the run. Haddonfield shouldn't have a problem putting points on the board, but can they prevent other teams from doing the same?

TEAM NAME: Baton Rouge Bengals
COACH : Jason Carach
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Fourth
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: WR Jeremy Flagler
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: LB Rodney Waddle

WR Jeremy Flagler can flat out fly. Flagler has the abilities to catch the ball in traffic and is great in the run after the catch. LB Rodney Waddle can do it all. Waddle led his team in tackles and in interceptions throughout the preseason. Waddle's coverage skills are one of the best in the league at the LB position. The Bengals need to do two things to be succesfull. First, they must play better defense. Second, they must come out ready to play. The Bengals were outscored in the first quarter 45-0. If the Bengals can iron out these problems they should be able to compete for the division.

TEAM NAME: Virginia Beach Panthers
COACH : Mike Webster
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Fifth
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: WR Aaron Williams
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: LB Ty Schultz

WR Aaron Williams can stretch the field and is very hard to cover man on man. LB Ty Schultz has the skills to be an all pro. Schultz should be able to shut down anything on his side of the field. With a new coach and not much time, the Panthers could be in store for a long season.

WESTERN DIVISION

TEAM NAME: New Deal Lions
COACH : Mike Hennig
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: First
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: HB Matt Thomas
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: CB Mark Russell

HB Matt Thomas was the best running back in the preseason, not many teams were able to slow him down. CB Mark Russell is just one piece of an excellent Lions secondary. Russell is also very good in supporting the run. New Deal has one of the best offenses in the game. The Lions defense causes turnovers and plays the run very well. New Deal can do it all, and could win it all.

TEAM NAME: Denver Demons
COACH : Derek Napoli
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Second
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: HB Chris Barnes
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: LB Shawon Hopkins

HB Chris Barnes is the running back every team would love to have. He is a dangerous runner and just as deadly as a reciever. LB Shawon Hopkins led all players in tackles in the preseason. Hopkins coverage ability is a big reason it is so difficult to pass against the Demons. Denver finished the preseason with the best defense and the best offense. If Denver can beat New Deal the division will be theirs. Stop Chris Barnes and you can stop the Demons.

TEAM NAME: Pullman Cougars
COACH : Dave Sherrod
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Third
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: QB Sam Atkins
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: DE Terrence Tanner

QB Sam Atkins has great speed and intelligence, the only question mark to his game is his arm strength. Atkins should help Pullman by not making mistakes. DE Terrence Tanner knows how to get to the QB. The DL of the Cougars should give them the best pass rush in the game. Pullman has potential all pros on both sides of the ball. With a great pass rush and a ball control offense, Pullman could end up with the division crown.

TEAM NAME: Long Beach All Stars
COACH : Jon Nebesnik
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Fourth
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: QB Jimmy Marshall
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: SS Dwight Goodall

Newly acquired QB Jimmy Marshall, who threw all over teams during the preseason, will limit the interceptions that have been plagueing them. SS Dwight Goodall is exactly what teams look for in a safety. Goodall is an excellent hitter, plays the run like a LB, and covers like a CB. Long Beach needs alot more from their offensive team. The All Stars defense played very well considering the extra pressure put on them by the offense.

TEAM NAME: Duluth Moose
COACH : Jake Othell, Phil Szatch
PREDICTED DIVISION FINISH: Fifth
OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: WR Warren Drayton
DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH: LB Jamel Wynn

WR Warren Drayton is a very good reciever who isn't affraid to go over the middle. LB Jamel Wynn posted Hall of Fame numbers in his only game in the preseason. Wynn had 23 tackles 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed. Wynn could become the best defensive player in the ECFL. Duluth could finish anywhere from first to worst. Very difficult to scout a team who has only played one game. No matter where Duluth does finish, they will be competitive.
