Firbi is a dream come true for me! He is 1/4 "new" African stock and very tightly linebred on the old, healthy SunDiata line. In researching pedigrees, I found that most of my dogs carried the SunDiata lines, but several generations back. I've always admired the "classic" style of basenji that the SunDiata dogs embody, and the outstanding health found in their pedigrees. I've also been following the dogs descended from African imports of the late '80s with great interest. I think they have a lot to offer in terms of genetic diversity and health. Firbi is everything I wanted in a wonderful little package!
And what's in a name, you ask? Well, "Dahabu Firimbi" is Swahili for Gold Flute. I thought this was a perfect way to honor both his African heritage, and his grandma, Goldie (SunDiata Sashalia Gold Flute).
Firbi made his show debut at the 2004 BCOA Nationals in Manitowoc, WI. He placed 4th in the 1/4 African puppy dog class, and although he didn't place in his other classes, he showed incredibly well for his first time in the ring. Better yet, he had a blast meeting new folks. Look for him at shows around the midwest next year!! |
