About Me:
For the latest on my life, check out my blog. Yes, I've stooped to having a blog. Sorry. I still maintain ECHO BASE, an unofficial Echoing Green page. Joey B. rawks! Plus my sister Becky and I still have our Cornerstone '99 site up and running. Also, I enjoy Star Wars, MST3K, and other pieces of entertainment. Here's my church. I'm help with the youth group, called Free Life, I'm a volunteer staff member (my friends Matt and Sheree are the paid staff). Matt has a knack for making goofy home movies, of the irreverant kind you wouldn't expect to see in church. Those should be online sometime. Plus, you have to check out the Phantom Tollbooth, a zine I help with. I'm the news director there. Our sites, including crosswalk also use my news updatse on their sites. My sister Becky works at Gateway Church in Austin, TX. My dad Bruce teaches at Quinnipiac in CT. My mom Connie runs her own quilting business in Connecticut. |

Music:
I enjoy grooving to U2, Lifehouse, and P.O.D. While it's hard for me to say, U2 may be my all-time favorite band. For the last five years, I've attended the Cornerstone Festival Sixpence None the Richer has long been one of my favorite bands. I cannot help but dig Bill Mallonee and the Vigilantes of Love Buy their new album Summershine now! Fleming & John don't give me Sadder Days For techno, synth, and industrial I enjoy Aleixa, Joy Electric, and Moby. As well as BT, System 22, and Leiahdorus MxPx ranks as my favorite punk band, while Five Iron Frenzy is my Ska band of choice |
Film,
Literature, Entertainment, Etc: I thoroughly enjoy the works of CS Lewis, especially his Space Trilogy, and his apologetics in Mere Christianity and God in the Dock Please, please, please, do yourself a favor and read a book by John Fischer. I strongly recommend 12 Steps for the Recovering Pharisee (like me) Besides Star Wars, my all time favorite movies include the Indiana Jones Trilogy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Blues Brothers, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and just about anything with Tom Hanks or Harrison Ford in it. I am member of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Info Club. My favorite episodes include: Manos, The Final Sacrifice, Pod People, Robot Monster, and Time Chasers. Of course, I love the others too. As a television reporter, I spend a lot of time watching the news, including MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News. Animation has always fascinated me. Whether it was Scooby-Doo or Jonny Quest (the original) or whatever, I like cartoons. Especially those from Hanna-Barbera |
Sports:
In the NFL, I cheer for the Minnesota Vikings, which isn't as easy as it used to be. Baseball is the American national pasttime. I root for the Twins and Cardinals. The '87 World Series was great! And we came close to a rematch in 2002. I like basketball, but I'm torn. Growing up, I liked anybody in the western conference, particularly the Portland Trailblazers, the Phoenix Suns, and the San Antonio Spurs (because of David Robinson). But then came along the Minnesota Timberwolves. When your head coach is named Flip, I can't go against you :) Hockey left me. As a kid, I had a Minnesota North Stars belt buckle (courtesy uncle Larry). And I caught a game (or more?) at the old Met Center. But then, the NHL left the Hockey Capital of America. Secretly, I still kinda like Mike Modano and the Stars. If you don't include channel surfing, the only sport I've played competitively in recent years is Ultimate Frisbee. Oh, and Roller Hockey. |
Television: You can't go wrong turning on FOX any given Sunday - NFL Football, Futurama, the Simpsons, and The X-Files. Four of my favorites. Besides that, of course, I watch Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. I've been hoping for a game show revival for a long time, so I'm enjoying this. Besides Regis, Win Ben Stein's Money is the best game show currently in production. Most of the other shows I like have ended their runs. Seinfeld is over. Newsradio was cancelled. Okay, I am a sucker for some of this reality television, Survivor in Particular. While I thought the show couldn't get any better after the first season, the second try was great too. Of course I'm biased. I actually knew one of the Survivors -- Mitchell Olson (went to College together). Speaking of which, I actualy know two reality tv stars - Mitchell from Survivor, and Lindsey from Real World Seattle. How crazy is that? Plus I met a guy who was on The Osbournes. |
Hobbies:
Photography. I like to get out with my 35 mm SLR and try new stuff. The Net. I'm not just talking about the web either. I've been doing the e-mail thing since the early '90s, and I got into USENET not long after that. I've gone through more e-mail addresses than phone numbers :) Music. Although, if you've read this far, you've already figured that out. I use winamp to play my favorite mp3s. As much as I like recorded music, there's nothing better than hearing a band live. |
Stuff:
I drive a '00 Chevy Malibu I like satire, and parodies, including the Onion. Art Bell is a paranormal / conspiracy type talk show host I help with the church youth group, and also with the young singles group. Plus for the past two years, I've sung in the choir for the big Christmas program. |

Radio: Okay, so talk radio is pretty stagnant right now. If you want something different, check out T.D. Mischke on am 1500 KSTP (Minneapolis / St. Paul). The web cast is down currently. But according to the unofficials Mischke site there appear to be plans to syndicate soon. For samples, and a fascinating story, check out Atlantic Monthly's feature on Tommy Mischke. |
