Song For Townes Make Good Rope Enough to Hang Myself Mileage The Girl with Mountain Dew Hair Georgia Moon
Song for Townes
By Jeremy Baldwin
January 1997
Inspired by Bob Dylan's "Song for Woody"
-
I'm out here a thousand miles from my home
Seeing a world I might never have known
If not for the light around you that shown
And the truth that you spoke that cut right to the bone
-
You'll never know how much you taught me
The beauty and danger that now I can see
Your death too soon it came
But your life was not lived in vain
-
Hey, Hey Townes Van Zandt I wrote you a song
About the old road we're both travelling on
I know its no good and it can't compare
But I can't seem to find you anywhere
Make Good
By Jeremy Baldwin
February 2001
-
The land I come from is serene and pretty
But I left my home to go to the city
I stole my grandma's Christmas stash
And caught the Greyhound with 13 dollars cash
When I finally arrived at the station
There was no one to meet me, no friend, no relation
the wind it was chilly and the people were cold
Lost in the city, 16 years old
CHORUS:
I thought I would make a livin'
Chasin' whiskey, wine and women
I thought I would (x3)
...make good
-
I met a girl and her name was Goldie
She sweet talked me, but then she rolled me
So I slept in the bushes by the river
But lay awake all night and shivered
I never woke up the next morning
When the found me, I was frozen
They took my body down to the city morgue
And laid me down in a cold, hard drawer
CHORUS
-
If the land you come from is serene and pretty
Take my advice don't you leave for the city...

Rope Enough to Hang Myself
By Jeremy Baldwin
April 2001
-
A bottle of whiskey and an old jack-knife
That's rope enogh to hang myself
Am I drunk enough to take your life ?
Why don't you find out yourself
-
It don't take much just an inch or two
and they'll take a mile
Don't you dare fire that gun
until you see them smile
-
CHORUS
If you want a job done right
you've got to do it yourself
Gimme, gimme, gimme enough rope
Oh, to hang myself
-
Katie Mae is a mighty good girl
but she made one mistake
She cheated on me with Bobby Earl
Now she's in the lake
-
I was down by the river when they came for me
I was fishing for trout
Three men with badges and guns
but I took them out
-
CHORUS
Now I'm sleeping out under the bridge
Man, it sure gets cold
I know my days are numbered now
I know I'll never grow old
CHORUS
-
Mileage
By Jeremy Baldwin
January 2003
-
CHORUS
They say that its the years that will catch you in the end
But I believe that its the mileage that will do you in
I was riding on an all night Russian train
Sat between a nun and a cossack, but I was feelin' no pain
I don't know where we were going or we we had been
But we all had our habits, if you know what I mean
When the sister and the cossack started to sing, it took me by surprise
They sounded just like George Jones and Tammy Wynette and I wiped the tears from my eyesCHORUS
-
A good man died out on the road all by himself
Me and the preacher were at his funeral, there weren't nobody else
His name was Lucky and sometimes he was
Roamed the rails from LaCrosse to Spokane just looking for a buzzLiving in troubled times where the wrong people dieIts hard for me to stay hopeful, but I gotta try
CHORUS
The Girl with Mountain Dew Hair
By Jeremy Baldwin
circa Fall 1994
-
I hopped into my pick-up
Lookin' to pick a chick up
What kind I did not care
That's when I spied her
I could not deny her
The girl with mountain dew hair
-
I bought her a Moon Pie
And said with a sigh
"I'm lost, but I don't know where"
She put a smile on her face
And said, "How about my place?"
I said, "I do declare"
And now I'm in love
With a green-haired angel from above
With the girl with mountain dew hair
-
And when I awoke
I had a smoke
The hangover was a bear
She was gone
I looked on her lawn
But she was nowhere
She was out of sight
But at least I had one night
With the girl with mountain dew hair

Georgia Moon
By Jeremy Baldwin
circa Fall 1995
-
When I was a boy
My Grandpa used to take me
to those Georgia hills
He taught me to fish
He taught me to make whiskey
In a wood burning still
-
CHORUS
Shine on, Georgia Moon
You come so fast
You are gone too soon
Shine on, Georgia Moon
Something about you just makes me swoon
-
Grandpa used to taste every batch
WIth his old cracked lips
He'd say, "This one here is my best"
While I cut up more woodchips
-
CHORUS
Georgia Moon, your taste is so sweet
And your body is so divine
Georgia Moon, I do believe
Your love is making me blind
-
CHORUS
When I finally pass away
For me don't you mourn
Just lay my body down in my grave
With a full jar of corn
-
CHORUS
-
