Ghanaian children LOVE ECM's "Character Building from the Bible" program for public schools in Ghana.  A project of Every Child Ministries, a Christian mission for the forgotten children of Africa.

As a toddler this boy roamed the streets of Accra, alone most of the time.  Now he is thriving at Haven of Hope, a Christian children's home / orphanage with a loving family-like atmosphere, a project of Every Child Ministries in Ghana.

Judith understands how shrine slavery devastates the lives of the girls caught up in it.  Once a trokosi shrine slave herself, she is now free and working as a counselor with Every Child Ministries.  Her goal is to help liberate other trokosi shrine slaves and help the trokosi rebuild their ruined lives by the power of Jesus.
Once a shrine slave herself, Judith now counsels others escaping the horrific life of a "trokosi", slave of the "gods".
Although many have been liberated and rehabilitated, ECM estimates that about 2,000 women and children remain enslaved to traditional shrines in Ghana.  The practice is against Ghanaian law since 1998.  Is it fear, perhaps, that has prevented the law from being enforced so far? 

This practice, called trokosi or fiashidi, is defended by some traditionalists, but ECM is unalterably opposed to it because of its extremely harmful effects on the children involved.  We have been instrumental in three liberations freeing slaves from five shrines, but we will never rest until every slave is freed!
Many of these children formerly roamed the streets as homeless street children or suffered as trokosi slaves in idol shrines.  Now t hey are safe, loved, valued, WANTED at Haven of Hope, a Christian children's home / orphanage which is a project of Every Child Ministries in Ghana.

We aim to provide the love, care and stability of a family-like environment for children who need a home.  Haven of Hope is presently home to 43 children, while 80 attend Haven of Hope Academy.
