We are located
on a boundary line of two different but important geologic
time eras.
To the North lies the cretaceous which was the period of the
dinosaurs. The great horned dinosaur or triceratops was
first discovered here in the late 1800's when several
specimens were removed from this area. In recent times,
not many dinosaurs have been found, however; other interesting
fossils have been found. Fish fossils such as sharks teeth
and gar fish scales have been found. Also found in the
area have been leaf and stem imprints from plantlife.
To the South lies the ologocene which was a period of warm blooded mammals. This era extends from 30 million to 60 million years ago. Fossils of horse, camel, rhinoseros, rabbit and turtle are found as well a lesser known mammals such as oreodont and titanothere. Many prominent college and university professors whose interest was in fossils have visited us over the years. for more info on fossils check the links below. | |
