ECOFARM COMMUNITY |
Living Here at ECOFARM We currently have room for interested parties to join us at ECOFARM. If you would like to visit please first read the membership requirements, fill out the questionnaire and write a letter of intent. . We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, families and individuals, but we really need a core group of [emotionally] mature, self-starters that feel comfortable living and working on a farm.. If you are seriously interested in visiting and possibly living here please email us. |
Ongoing Projects You can participate and learn while fulfilling membership requirements. Perhaps you have expertise with, and could serve as lead person on one of the following projects: Solar energy Canning and Pickling Permaculture Horticulture Organic Farming Farm Equipment Repair Bicycle Repair Shop We are also building and doing carpentry, electrical and other construction work if you are interested in these trades. We are planning a Solar Intertie with our local power company and will need help with this project Currently, we don't have enough help to market our extra organic veggies and products on a regular basis, but many opportunities exist for a lead person to work with this aspect of the farm. If you have other skills that you think might 'fit' the community, please email us to start a dialog. |
LIFE ON ECOFARM Well, we get up to all kinds of things here, so there is no typical day. We work hard farming and gardening, caring for the chickens and pets, doing equipment & tractor repair for local farmers, performing various housekeeping duties, etc. With certain tasks (i.e., harvesting, daily watering), everyone's participation is essential. We feel that it is important that we all eat together at lunch and dinner. Right now, one person does most of the cooking, but if you like to cook healthy, mostly vegetarian food, that is another way you can participate. Homeschooling of children is of great importance to us and we would like to encourage this with new members (there are currently no children, but we welcome families). In the same vein; we value our ever-growing community library, and also encourage regular visits to the local public library. Peace, social justice and environmental advocacy are important to us. We attend rallies, write letters and volunteer in the community at large. No food goes to waste: We believe in SHARING. And to share the word with others we now produce a sustainable living radio show bi-monthly on WMNF 88.5 FM, www.wmnf.org; a simply awesome radio station supported solely by the listeners. We have many ways of relaxing here on the farm: Music -- jamming out some tunes on our instruments; whether it's guitars, drums or singing, we like to have fun...and the Tampa Bay area has excellent, eclectic music venues. Swimming -- jump in the pool and splash around. Walks -- plenty of wildlife to see here; take lots of pictures or just take in the views.. Water -- three major rivers and lots of kayaking opportunities closeby. Beach -- we are within one hour of some of the finest beaches in the country. Conversation -- yes we still talk to each other here and the "art of conversation" is alive and well. |
