After more than 18 years fighting kidney failure my mother passed away on January 13,2001 at the age of 43.
My christening. 1978              Christmas 1978
Although she was never diabetic she was daignosed with kidney failure at the age of 25. She dealt with Peritoneal Dialysis for about 8 years until in 1992 she underwent a kidney transplant. She did very well with the transplant with the exception of the weight gain from the medications. The transplant lasted about a year and a half before failing. Since then she was on Hemo-Dialysis. Taking a trip to the hospital 3 days per week for about 3 hours per day. Along with the  kidney failure she dealt with many other medical problems. She had heart problems for which she had a pacemaker implanted, breathing problems for which she was on oxygen for most of the day, 2 strokes, a heart attack, and some near death experiences while on the operating table. And finally it was another heart attack that took her from us. Despite all of the problems she had in her life, she never gave up, and never stopped helping others who were also in need.
For several years before her death she volunteered  answering phones at the local St. Jude's Children Research Hospital Radio-A-Thon being held at our local mall. As well as helping newer dialysis patients acclimate to the disease and  treatment. She also helped her disabled mother and elderly step-father as well as always being there for her daughter and husband.
She was an incredible woman who inspired many and will be missed by all.
