SPECIAL NEWSLETTER UPDATE:

Our President, Joe Cassisi, died Saturday, September 29, 2001.

One of the world’s finest, this man was indefatigable. He strove to provide help to anyone who needed it, devoted untold hours to doing those things that no one else cared to do. He was a moral and God-loving man who lived as if everyone were his brother or sister.

Joe was a mechanical engineer — and one of the best. He had an extensive clientele, and left unfinished a number of jobs. His specialty was waste water facilities. Joe was so conscientious that when his doctor told him lab tests showed he should go to the hospital, he wanted to delay it a week, so he could get some of the important work done. His doctor told him he was going to the hospital now.

Joe had completed lab tests that showed he had a pancreas problem. The lab tests were run a second time, and confirmed the original findings. Joe had pancreatic cancer. A Stanford specialist who has removed cancer from the pancreas many times was unable to take care of Joe. The afflicted pancreas literally exploded before any surgery could be done.

Joe Cassisi was in his second year as Engineers Club President. Earlier he had served as President of ASME. He was a member of the Rotary Club. He is survived bv his wife and five children.

Joe left behind a business that needs a new operator to take care the many projects in which he was involved. A mechanical engineer with a bent toward waste water facilities will find a tremendous opportunity here. It will help Joe, his clients, and himself.

If you are interested, contact Dr. Joseph Olsen, Esq., whose phone is 408-245-3204. When he heard the news, Joe Olsen was devastated, as were Board members who had much interaction with the president relating to Engineers Club.

Joe worked right up to the last minute. When he went to the hospital he asked his good friend, Bob Lynam, to call certain people about Engineers Club activities coming up.

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS met twice. First meeting it was the consenus that many of the club’s members had a wealth of experiences that could prove to be valuable to young engineers. Only through real life ventures is experience garnered, and many of the challenges and opportunities of older engineers can help guide young engineers over the shoals they will encounter.

So the initial speaker is Tom Liston, Mechanical Engineer, who has a repertoire of experience and knowledge that he will present at the meeting on Thursday.

The notice of the meeting is late again, living up to its tradition. Tom just got back from vacation on September 24, and we burned the midnight oil to get at least some word out to members. We know there’s little notice, but it’s really the best the Dope Sheet editor could do since he did not get the information until the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 24.

Next month’s meeting is another thing. We lined it up with Morgan Stanley and it will, be a valuable presentation for everyone. The stock market has been crazy, as everyone knows, and perhaps Craig Cymrot of the Morgan Stanley firm can provide some reliable current information that will help clarify what is going on.

As we write this, the market rose dramatically today -- both DJIA and NASDAQ, prompting the pundits to suggest that it doesn’t mean anything since it can go down just as rapidly and probably will. Well, we will see. Our meeting place is Bakers Square at 2910 El Camino Real, Santa Clara. You’ll like its ambience as well as its food. We hope you can make it Thursday.
