PC RACE FACT:  Normally your spot on the grid for the first heat races are determined by what you "pea-pick" out of a tin can during race registration.  Say you picked the lowest number, so you are gridded near the front on the first heat race.  Then on the second heat race, the gridding gets reversed so you are gridded at the back.  The combined results from these heat races will determine the gridding for the Main Event (where your resulting finsh counts!).

COMMENT:  I think the best number to get is in the middle so you can work your way up in both heat races if your fast.  It is hard enough to pass people at Prarie City let alone trying to do from the back of 20+ racers.
RACE 3. THIS WAS MY FIRST YSR RACE.  I remember feeling excited and scared at the same time.  That's probably why first time racers like myself are placed at the back of the grid and are noted as "X" racers -- newbies.  They are always gridded at the back until they can prove they can rub elbows with the regulars.
I entered the largest race class at PC:  Novice Supersport.  Usually there are 6 to 10 racers per class. Here's a picture of 21 YSR riders after the green light.   Luckily nobody crashed as we all bump elbows and fight for positions going into turn one.  I'm the one wearing the Spidi Scott Russel replica leathers.  I started at the back of the pack and finished 17th out of 21entries.   Craig, in the Nankai Leathers, also had a good view of everyone's back at the start because he was still considered a newbie.  It was his second YSR race of the year and finished 16th.16th.
