Feb 24th Race #1
Race 1.  First race of the year and I could not wait to get back on the track.  Unlike last year, I arrived  today with a working bike.  I hate coming unprepared for a race--too much stress trying to get it to work on race day.  Anyway, the bike was ready but I just got over a bad flu that lasted 2 weeks, so I felt about 80% ready.  Today's track setup was the Perimeter. It's my personal favorite because it's the longest setup at Prarie City.  Jerry Ahrens made the two heats 6 laps a piece and the main 8 laps.

I pea-picked a number which landed me roughly in the middle of 15 racers for both heat races.  On the first heat race I started in 5th and finshed 6th.  It's been a while since riding on the track and I had problems shifting and turning my bike.  I couldn't shake #40 Frank Baker off me; and he's a muscular 200+ lbs guy on a 50cc bike.   I say muscular because most of  the YSR racers are overweight (so Frank if you read this don't kick my ass it's a compliment).  But I digress.

Then in heat 2, I was a little smoother where I started in 7th and finshed 6th.  I remember praying for the white flag by the 4th lap because I was exhausted. I guess my body was still recovering from being sick.

The Main event:  I started in 7th place.  After the race I learned that #40, Frank Baker had problems turning his  bike going into turn 1 from the start.  He started behind me and when we hit turn 1, his bike was pushing my rear out...luckily we did not crash.  I learned today that these bikes have some sort of stability--even while fuly leaned over in turn 1 with a huge  guy on a YSR pushing the rear out.  It was a good confidence builder in turn 1.

A crash today in turn 1 would've been real ugly because we had  4  "X" racers (newbies) in Novice SS today.  I'd hate for them have their first racing memory of crashing in turn 1.  I kept my spot throughout the race and finished 7th.  There was a racer whom I never seen before leading the race and on lap 3 he tumbled halfway up the hill before the corkscrew.   However, he got up and passed me by the last lap.  I was bummed but knew that I wasn't 100% today.  I was in auto pilot to keep my bike on two wheels today.  I am happy that the 1st race of the year was successful (read:  no crashes).  I know that I'm faster than what I pulled out today.  I finished in 7th place but I usually run on par with the top 5 finishers today.  I pray that I'm 100% in race 2  to give them a good run.
