Good Intentions
If I had done some of the things, I meant to do today,
I might have brightened someone's life, or helped along the way,
Someone who needed just a smile, or a gentle hand,
Someone to listen for a while, someone to understand,
But, I put off the little things, for another day,
When someone might be hoping, a friend might pass their way.
To me, these things take little time, but still, I waste away,
The precious moments of my life, that I could give away,
To some poor soul who needs a friend, to someone sick or old,
Some lonely child neglected, or someone in the cold.
Dear Lord, help me begin today, to do the things I should,
Teach me to be loving, thoughtful, kind, and good,
Let me not waste, a single day, on selfish, thoughtless deeds,
When I might use my moments, helping someone else in need.
