Etymology and History:
According to the Oxford Dictionary of English Christian Names (3rd ed., 1977), this name was coined by Sir Edward Conway (then governor of Brill, Holland) for his daughter, Brilliana Conway (1600-1643). She was something of a heroine during the English Civil war, and the name Brilliana is found among her descendants (the Harley family), even as late as the 19th century


Pronunciation: brill-ee-ann-ah, brill-yan-ah.
