Brittney is a modern variation on Brittany, which comes from a Celtic tribe called the Britons. When the Anglo-Saxons invaded England circa 500 A.D., the Britons fled to France, to a region then named Brittany. The Britons also left their name to the British Isles, Great Britain, and the British people. Britannia is the Latin name for Great Britain.

Although there are a few instances of “Britannia” in 18th century England, Brittany and Brittney are very much late 20th-century names.
