Caius is an older translation of the Latin name Gaius. Gaius (from Gavius) is a Latin name meaning “Rejoice,” from “gaudare.”

History:
Caius, (now usually rendered Gaius) is one of the oldest and most popular names of the Roman era. Several early saints (as well as a mention or two in the New Testament) led to its use in Wales afterwards (where it became Kai or Kay, as in Sir Kay of the King Arthur legends). It has never really caught on anywhere else.
