Etymology:
Cassandra comes from a Greek name meaning “Entangling Men.”

History:
They story of the Trojan horse, with its unheeded prophecies of Cassandra, was a popular tale during the Middle Ages. The name Cassandra can be found occasionally in England during the 13th and 14th centuries (first noted in 1207) and probably pronounced “Cassander.” After the Middle Ages it entered into a slow decline, becoming rarer and rarer until (by the 18th century) it had practically disappeared (Jane Austen’s mother, 1739-1827, and sister, 1773-1845, both named Cassandra, were notable exceptions). Cassandra was revived in the mid-twentieth century.
