History:
Cecilia, the name of a popular 3rd century saint, was introduced to England by the Normans. It was the name of the eldest daughter of William the Conquerer (Cecilia, the Abbess of Caen, 1056-1126). It was popular throughout the Middle Ages, though taking the English form of Cecily, or Cicely. Cecily is currently not popular.
