Consuelo comes form a Spanish title for the Virgin Mary “Nuestra Señora de los Consuelo, or Consolación” (Our Lady of Consolation, or Comfort), or “Maria de Consuelo.” These “title names” were often given to girls in place of Maria, which was previously considered too sacred for everyday use.
