Etymology:
Costin is an English contraction of the name Constantine (like Austin is for Augustine). Constantine is an English form of the Latin name Constantinus, from Constantius, meaning “Steady.”

History:
Constantine, being the name of the first Christian Roman Emperor, was a popular early Christian name, especially in the Eastern Orthodox Church (i.e. in Greece, Russia).
It was also the name of several early Scottish kings, which led to the name becoming common from the 12th to 17th centuries. Often times, the long name Constantine was contracted to the Costin, which was not uncommon.
