Dixie is a romanticized name for the southern United States, especially the antebellum southern United States.

There are several origin stories attributed to the term Dixie.
1. In one, Dixie comes from “Dix’s Land,” or Louisiana where ten dollar bills (“dix” in French) were printed.

2. Dixie is said to come from Dixon, as in the Mason-Dixon line that separated the nation into north and south. In this case, then, Dixie is ultimately derived from Richard.
